The podcast host also spoke about her experiences as a stepmother to her husband Michael Barrett‘s 20-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son.
“When I first came into their lives, I had no idea how to interact with them,” she confessed. “So I remember trying to be really cool, like playing music loud.”
“Like when I picked up my stepdaughter,” she continued, “of course she was embarrassed.”
As Anna explained, “That’s an example of how I got into that position.”
Fortunately, Anna discovered that she could develop a better relationship by taking a step back and letting the children come to her.
But as she herself noted, “It was an uphill battle.”
