‘Euphoria’ Season 3 to Begin Filming in 2025

After a terribly long break between seasons, HBO’s Euphoria is preparing to return to production.

The Sam Levinson-created drama is scheduled to begin filming for the third season in January 2025 — roughly three years after the season two premiere. HBO says all of the main cast, including Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi and Hunter Schafer, will return.

“I am delighted that we are ready to start production Euphoria in January,” said Francesca Orsi, executive vp HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films. “We couldn’t be happier about our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast. We look forward to this new season of Euphoria to life for the fans.”

HBO has not yet set a broadcast date, but it is unlikely that Euphoria was set to air late next year, meaning there would be a gap of up to four years between seasons. The dual writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023 meant there was no work on the show, and filming was further suspended in March to give Levinson more time to work on scripts.

When the series returns, it will likely take the show’s core cast beyond high school, sources told The Hollywood Reporter That third season will likely feature a time jump in March, and discussions between Levinson and HBO over how far ahead the story should air played a role in delaying filming.

HBO also said at the time that it would allow cast members — several of whom have flourishing careers fueled in part by the series — to “pursue other opportunities” during the hiatus. Cast member Nika King joked about the lengthy delay in a stand-up comedy performance — “Season three is coming — I really don’t know. Don’t ask me, I really don’t know,” she said dryly — in a move that went viral on social media.

When it last aired, Euphoria was one of HBO’s most popular series. Season two averaged over 16 million viewers across all platforms in the 90 days following its premiere, second only to Game of Thrones among the network’s series (Thrones precursor House of the Dragon And The last of us (have now surpassed that figure).
