HP sets out to disrupt the AI PC market and unveils the advanced OmniBook Ultra, delivering the industry’s highest AI performance with AMD Ryzen AI 300 APUs
HP is all set to show its dominance in the AI PC segment with its latest laptop release. The company has been quiet for a while now, while competitors like ASUS and Acer have been showcasing their AI PC-relevant offerings. However, it looks like HP has decided to break the silence in style as well. The company has unveiled its most capable OmniBook Ultra AI PC laptop at the “Imagine AI” event that was held in New York City on Thursday. During the event, HP was extremely bullish on the integration of AI in consumer products, claiming that it will enable creativity for everyone.
While the company didn’t disclose the laptop’s full specifications, it did call the laptop the “highest performing AI PC” and revealed that the laptop features the power of AMD’s Ryzen AI 300 “Strix” APUs.
- Inspires without compromise: Unleash endless creativity with the device’s AMD Ryzen AI 300-series processor with integrated AMD Radeon 800M graphics. The powerful NPU offers unmatched performance and up to 21 hours of battery life.
- Increases productivity: The OmniBook Ultra is co-designed with AMD to enable up to 55 TOPS of NPU performance. HP AI Companion optimizes the device for greater productivity and brings AI tools and solutions to the device. It will soon offer expanded functionality for managing PC settings and troubleshooting HP products.
- Enabling immersive and seamless collaboration: Experience life without interruptions with collaboration tools like an AI-driven 9MP high-resolution camera with the Poly Camera Pro app and Windows Studio Effects.
- Protects against threats: Leading protection and capabilities from Wolf Security on HP’s commercial devices are now available on the HP OmniBook Ultra. The unique security chip enables the core of the PC to heal itself from AI-powered cyberattacks, while keeping data private and users productive.
- Future-proof technology that is sustainable: The OmniBook Ultra will get a free update to Copilot+ PC experiences when it’s available from Microsoft. And it’s designed with up to 90% recycled metals and 5% ocean-bound plastics to reduce environmental impact.
With the focus squarely on AI, HP showed off the AI TOPS performance they were able to squeeze out of the Omnibook Ultra. According to the company, they were able to deliver 55 NPU TOPS, which is 5 TOPS higher than the officially rated 50 TOPS of the same Ryzen AI 300 family.
When comparing the SoC inside the HP OmniBook Ultra to competitors like Apple’s M4 chip, NPU performance was reported to be 45% faster, nearly double what the M3 offers. HP says that with AMD’s partnership they’ve managed to create a device that offers the fastest AI performance in the industry, and their OmniBook Ultra features a “co-engineered” design, which is why the Ryzen AI 300 chip delivers 55 TOPS of AI performance. It appears that HP has managed to squeeze out extra NPU TOPS by clocking the AI engine higher while working with AMD.
The HP OmniBook Ultra will also be certified under Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC program. It will offer up to 21 hours of battery life and an HP AI Companion for a personalized experience. The laptop will also offer an IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2240 x 1400 and up to 300 nits of brightness. Interestingly, the OmniBook Ultra will also feature Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, making it the first laptop from AMD’s camp to feature the standard.
The OmniBook Ultra retails for $1,449.99 and is expected to be available in early August.
