It’s Official, Roguelike ‘TMNT: Splintered Fate’ Will Feature 4-Player Co-op Gameplay

Just before the release on July 17Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate developer Super Evil Megacorp confirmed today that the radical roguelike will feature a four-player couch co-op game.

The Turtles’ Apple Arcade adventure has been touted as a “great TMNT co-op experience” since it was announced for the Switch at the Indie World Showcase in April 2024, but we didn’t know if it would be limited to an online capacity or if it would be possible to shout instructions to your friends while you play – you know, like every Turtles game should enjoyed. Fortunately, we now know that the latter will be available at launch.

Ian Fielding, head of studio at Super Evil Megacorp, said that the addition of couch co-op was the team’s “biggest wish” since the game launched on Apple Arcade last year, and that the developers had “put in extra effort” to get the game ready for launch on Switch:

Playing together is in our DNA Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games and the core of SEMC’s mission, and with Shattered fate, We’ve gone the extra mile to ensure co-op functionality was available for Switch right at launch. We’ll continue to listen to the community and improve the game over time based on player feedback

In addition to this local multiplayer, the Switch version of Splintered Fate will also feature improved graphics, lighting, environments, and more, all with new controls designed specifically for the Nintendo hybrid.

This week we were lucky enough to chat with one of the game’s developers about roguelike inspirations, the importance of keeping the Turtles unique, and working with TMNT legend Tom Waltz. Check out our full interview below.
