Jenni Rivera’s, Selena Quintanilla’s Star Among 3 Vandalized Hollywood Walk of Fame

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) — Jenni Rivera’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was vandalized more than once less than two weeks after it opened.

The late Mexican-American singer’s star was found covered in black paint on Monday, and fans stepped in to clean up the mess. Video footage shows a man on his knees trying to scrub the star clean.

The stars of Selena Quintanilla, the queen of Tejano music, and Heinie Conklin, a silent film actor and comedian, were also vandalized.

Jenni Rivera, better known as “La Diva de la Banda,” was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday.

Debbie Ochoa and her family are fans of Jenni Rivera. They were eager to find her newly unveiled star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during their visit to Southern California. But instead of finding it in brand-new condition, the Ochoas found it covered in black paint.

“We were upset and hurt,” said Debbie Ochoa.

Fans, including the Ochoas, immediately went to work cleaning up the mess.

“We all got together, and it was really fun because we had never met these people before, but knowing that we were all fans, and we wanted to do something about it, it felt good,” Debbie Ochoa said.

Ochoa said Rivera’s daughter Jacqie reached out to meet them and thank them.

Rivera and Selena’s stars were defaced with black paint again on Tuesday, officials said.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said professionals were hired to clean up the stars. Details about a suspect or motive behind the vandalism were not available.
