Nicolas Cage’s “concerned” ex Christina Fulton has spoken out about her son Weston’s arrest for assault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly attacked her during a mental health crisis.
The 57-year-old “Doors” actress confirmed that her son’s arrest was the result of a “manic rage.”
“On April 28, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental condition, urging me to come to his aid,” Fulton’s statement, obtained by People, began.
“When I arrived to support and comfort him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally attacked and seriously injured.”
Fulton claimed she made “desperate pleas” to responding officers to hold her son for a psychological evaluation, but they “denied” her request.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
The LAPD arrested Weston, 33, on Wednesday for an incident that occurred in April, but no reason was given for his arrest months later.
Documents show Weston was released on $150,000 bail.
Authorities also confirmed to the outlet that the mixed martial artist “punched two victims multiple times, causing injuries.”
The district attorney filed two charges of assault with a deadly weapon against Weston on June 26. An arrest warrant was later issued.
“As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston’s ongoing mental health crisis,” Fulton concluded in her statement. “It is imperative that he receives the help he so desperately needs.”
Fulton’s attorney previously told Page Six that she is cooperating with authorities to pursue the criminal charges against her son.
“My client has fully cooperated with the investigation and supports every decision made by law enforcement after they independently examined the evidence and facts,” the attorney said. “This is a criminal case and my client is merely a victim and witness.”
Weston and the “National Treasure” actor, who were in a relationship from 1988 to 1991, have only one son, Weston.
Nicolas, 60, has two other children: son Kal-El Cage, 18, with ex-wife Alice Kim, and daughter August, 1, with wife Riko Shibata.
