Women’s No. 1 Iga Swiatek eliminated from Wimbledon after third round loss

correction

A warning for this story incorrectly stated that match winner Yulia Putintseva is ranked No. 27 in the world. In fact, Putintseva is ranked No. 35 in the world.

Top-seeded Iga Światek lost her third-round Wimbledon match 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 to unseeded Yulia Putintseva of Khazakhstan on Saturday, ending her 21-match winning streak.

Swiatek, the world No. 1 from Poland, arrived at the All England Club as a title favourite after winning her fourth French Open title in June, but it was never expected to be an easy run. Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam where she has failed to advance beyond the quarter-finals.
