NEW YORK — 4th of July Fireworks Show in New York City is back across the Hudson River tonight for the first time in more than ten years.

We know all about when it starts, how long it lasts and the best places to watch the fireworks in both New York and New Jersey – as well what to expect from the weather and which street closures you should know about.

If you’re not celebrating in the city itself, we also have a list of 4th of July fireworks shows in New Jersey, Westchester and Rockland counties, and on Long Island.

What time do the fireworks start on July 4th in New York?

Macy’s July 4th fireworks are expected to begin at 9:25 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, approximately one hour after sunset.

The fireworks display usually lasts about 30 minutes and ends shortly before 10pm.

Best Places to Watch the 4th of July Fireworks in NYC

The fireworks are shot off from ships located on the Hudson Riveras the show returns to Manhattan’s West Side for the first time in over a decade. The boats will be lined up between West 14th and West 34th Streets.

Macy’s recommends watching the show from the following locations in New York City:

  • Christopher Street & Washington Street (ADA access available)
  • West 11th Street and Washington Street
  • West 12th Street and Washington Street
  • West 29th Street and 11th Avenue
  • West 40th Street and 11th Avenue (ADA access available on West 41st St.)

The NYPD announced additional street closures for cars and pedestrians.

People looking across the river in New Jersey have the best view from:

  • Pier A-park
  • Stevenspark
  • Elysian Park
  • Maxwell Place Park

Parking will be limited around the viewing areas, so organizers recommend taking public transportation. MTA subways and buses will operate with increased service before and after the event.

Jersey City will have numerous road closures throughout the day. The main viewing area for the public will be Montgomery Street and Christopher Columbus Drive. Other streets in the area will be open only to residents and emergency personnel.

Coney Island also hosts its annual 4th of July fireworks display at 9:45 p.m. in Steeplechase Park.

  • The Grucci family’s Stars Over Montauk exhibit will be held at 9:15 p.m. at Umbrella Beach.
  • And of course, there’s the annual 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular at 9:30 p.m. on Jones Beach. Organizers say this year’s show is inspired by “Barbie,” Beyonce and Taylor Swift.
