Montel Williams rejects calls to support ex-girlfriend Kamala Harris

Montel Williams will not answer your questions about dating Vice President Kamala Harris — and if you ask them, you’ll get an “unpleasant response,” he said this week via Twitter/X.

“I’ve said what I’m going to say about the thing that keeps trending,” he said, seemingly referring to his decades-long relationship with Harris. “My friends in the media should think twice before wasting time on a 20-something year old image—you will find that this will produce an unpleasant reaction.”

The former host of The Montel Williams Show Also reposted a screenshot from his media representative showing the representative blocking questions from Harris, calling them “creepy” and “misogynistic.”

Williams has previously admitted that he and Harris had a “brief” relationship and questioned why her romantic history was put under a microscope in a way that wouldn’t happen if she were a man.

“@KamalaHarris and I dated briefly about 20 years ago when we were both single,” he says. Posted to X in 2019, when their relationship first came under scrutiny. “So what? I have great respect for Senator Harris. I wonder if the same stories would have been written about her dating history if she had been a male candidate?” He has also previously fired back at right-wing pundits who made a big deal out of their brief relationship.

Williams has been vocal online since news broke that Harris is now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, but initially seemed reluctant to endorse her. reposted Biden’s withdrawal news comes at the same time as his endorsement of another candidate, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, even though Moore himself has not indicated he plans to run.

“I would love to see @iamwesmoore at the top of the ticket or otherwise on my ballot and I am ready to campaign,” Williams tweeted after a repost of Moore’s statement about Biden’s withdrawal, “I’ve watched @GovWesMoore lead my home state of Maryland, and I know leadership when I see it.”

Though Williams initially remained silent on the Harris news, he later retweeted Moore’s statement supporting her nomination. Moore, only the third Black man ever elected governor of the country, is a rising political star who last month pardoned 175,000 low-level marijuana convictions and has been floated as a potential pick for Harris as vice president.

While Williams voiced his support for Moore, he appeared to elaborate on why he publicly backed the Maryland governor over Harris: “Is anyone surprised that I’m interested in a politician who also went to the Naval Academy and whose leadership has impressed me?” he posted.

Ultimately, Williams gave his tacit support to Harris by reposting Moore’s statement of support for her and then take screenshot the action again with the caption “Reminding people I retweeted this.”

But he has made it clear he won’t tolerate any press inquiries about their brief time together, as he reposted a fan’s tweet which read: “LEAVE MONTEL WILLIAMS ALONE!”
